/>

Since I have been a mama to Lucy for nearly two months now I thought it would be nice if I shared some of the products I found to be essentials and that has made this fourth trimester be a lot easier. Every single item in this post I one thousand percent recommend for all new parents! If you're a new parent, a parent to be, or just curious about the products my family has been enjoying this post is for you! Keep in mind that just because these products have worked wonders for our family doesn't necessarily mean your family will love it just as much, and that's ok. Let's get right into the products.

One thing I always planned on introducing Lucy too was a pacifier. Not all parents are for this, so this is when you need to make the best decision for your family. I heard some pretty good benefits to introducing a binky to your baby which was why I hoped Lucy would take one. One reason was newborns tend to cluster/comfort feed in the first week of life. I didn't want this to happen and wanted to teach her the difference between the nipple that feeds her and the nipple that soothes her. Second, the binky does a great job at soothing her whenever she's fussy that alone is usually a win. Lastly, I had read an article that using a binky can actually help prevent SIDS. Lucy's favorite binky is the BIBS pacifier. They come in all sorts of different colors and you best believe she has a ton to match with her every outfit!

Way before I was even pregnant I've always heard mama's rave about the Fridababy Nosefrida Snotsucker. Like most people, I thought it was gross and said I would never use it. I added it to my baby registry just in case. It wouldn't hurt to have also so that come if the day came and we'd need it Rudy would be the one to use it and clean Lucy's nose haha. When Lucy was about two weeks old we noticed her nose was kind of congested and she had a few boogers. We were using those bulb syringes that they give you at the hospital but I found it wasn't doing a good job grabbing all of the snot and it took a while to get her nose clean. One day Rudy and I finally decided to use the nose Frida, of course, Rudy was going to be the one doing it. He had such a hard time because he couldn't stop gagging haha, so I finally decided to man up and do it myself. I can't believe I'm typing this down, but I love this thing! It gets just about everything that's in her nose and it makes the entire process so much easier! Lucy doesn't fight me while I'm cleaning her nose, in fact, I think she kind of enjoys it. She prepares herself each time I'm about to begin sucking out her snot out haha that sounds terrible. This product has been amazing, we use it every few days. I recommend it to every parent!

This next item I never thought would be essential for a baby. When buying things for the diaper changing station I went with one of those Gathre mats that is made of vegan leather. They're the perfect size and material for diaper changes because if there's a mess you can wipe it clean. We even have two, one for home diaper changes and one in the diaper bag. I still do enjoy these for changing mats, however, there is another thing we started using way more that has been a lifesaver. When we got discharged from the hospital they sent us home with tons of supplies for postpartum. One item they gave us was those disposable underpads. Whenever Rudy or I would change Lucy's diaper she'd randomly start peeing all over the place and when she'd do this on the Gathre mat it would run down her back soaking her clothes. This started happening at almost every diaper change at one point and it was frustrating constantly having to undress her and then put new clothes on her especially in the middle of the night. One day I can't even remember if it was Rudy or myself that grabbed those potty pads and started changing Lucy on it. This has been such an amazing product that has been so damn handy for us. We never thought girl babies peed like this, only boys, but we were wrong! We're especially thankful to be using this when we're mid diaper change and little miss Lucy decides to poop everywhere. Oh, what joy.

Since the day Lucy was born we immediately started playing a sound machine for her while she sleeps. We purchased the Hatch Rest sound machine for the room, a portable sound machine for her car seat, and we even purchased the Baby Shusher soother machine. The three of us love them all! Do you need all three? Probably not, however, I don't regret purchasing any one of them because we use every single one of those machines. The Hatch Rest is in the room with us and I have it set to play all night and I turn it on whenever Lucy is taking a nap. I have it programmed to turn on at 10 pm and turn off at 7:30 am. I know Lucy loves this machine because every morning at 7:30 am when the machine turns off she starts to fuss and wake up. We use the Shusher every time we set her down in her crib to kind of relax and soothe her until she dozes off into her sleep. Obviously, the portable sound machine is used for outings and it's either attached to her car seat or in the stroller. This usually helps keep her asleep and calm and it was so handy during our hour drive when we took Lucy to meet her Bisavó "great-grandmother". You can't go wrong with any.

I did so much research and had a list of things I wanted to do with Lucy once she was born. It was planned from day one that she would be wrapped while she sleeps. I had purchased the Ollie World swaddle. I heard many women say how much they and their babies loved this velcro swaddle. Once Lucy came home we started putting her in it for nighttime use and she seemed to really enjoy it. I'm not exactly sure when it started but I began noticing when I would set her down in her crib and swaddle her up in the wrap she would immediately begin to squirm around and fuss until she'd get angry. Once I would release her arms she would instantly calm down. My plans were to swaddle her with her hands down when she sleeps, luckily I had purchased the Love To Dream Swaddle Up swaddle that allows the babies to have their arms up as a backup. Apparently the arms up is the more natural position for babies which allows them to self-soothe, something I want Lucy to learn. Once we started putting her in this she was a happy camper! I knew I needed to purchase a second swaddle for days when she spits up and dirty it. When I had gone to BuyBuyBaby to purchase that back up I came across the Nested Bean Zen One convertible swaddle. I had seen this swaddle on Instagram and had been eyeing it. This swaddle is lightly weighted that mimics the pressure of your touch and is proven to soothe the baby. What pretty much sold me to want to get this swaddle was that it claims your baby will have a better night's sleep within 3 nights! I ended up picking this guy up and now the Love To Dream swaddle acts as our backup. The nested swaddle is so great we have seen great results since using it. Lucy has always been a very good sleeper, but since using this she's been consistently sleeping at least three in a half hours to sometimes four. There's been a couple of nights she's slept five hours and even one night that she slept a full six hours! Hallelujah!

Newborns have such sensitive skin! I've always known this but I didn't know how sensitive their skin really was until I had my own baby. Within a week of Lucy's life, she got a little heat rash around the back of her neck and I totally freaked out but luckily it didn't even last 24 hours. Almost three weeks ago I started noticing that she kept getting bumps around the back of her neck, behind her ears, and in front of her neck. I'm still not sure if this was another rash, eczema, or baby acne. After constantly wondering what was causing it I finally figured out that it had to be from when Rudy and myself would hold Lucy to burp her. Even though we're constantly washing our hands and disinfecting them with baby hand sanitizer, her skin is extremely sensitive. Before Lucy was born, I bought a whole bunch of products from Tubby Todd that ranged from bath time products, lotions, diaper cream, nipple balm, and more. They had such great reviews and because of its clean ingredients, I knew this was the only brand I wanted to touch my baby's skin. Every night during bathtime we use their hair + body wash in the lavender and rosemary scent. After drying Lucy off I always pamper her with a massage, this is her favorite part of her nighttime routine. I start off by using the dream cream that contains shea butter and mint, then I slather a nice layer of the all-over ointment. This goes mainly on the areas that she had her little rash and her face. I noticed a difference in her skin by the next morning and today her skin is completely clear and hasn't broken out. I still continue to use both creams on her, the all-over ointment specifically on areas that are more prone to breaking out like her face and neck. I'm obsessed with all of the products we've used from Tubby Todd their butt cream is another product we use religiously. I'm so happy I decided to go with their brand to use for Lucy especially since it's done wonders on her skin. I really didn't want to have to resort to getting a prescription cream for her from her pediatrician. I feel a lot better with these clean ingredients. If you're interested in trying out some of their products click this link and you can save 10% one time only.

Lastly, I have to give a shoutout to our Boppy pillow. I purchased this months ago because I always heard new moms and moms-to-be talk about how it's a necessity, especially for breastfeeding. Once we came home from the hospital after Lucy was born I started using it I absolutely hated it. I remember finding it so hard to control because it moved around so easily and it was just so hard to nurse Lucy with this maybe because it was still new to me. I just wasn't used to it. Rudy, however, loved this pillow since day one and to this day uses it every single time he feeds her. From birth, Lucy only enjoyed nursing in the football position which was fine, however, once in a while I wanted to switch things up because I felt like both my hands were tied up with her as I fed her. This was especially difficult because she was borderline premie so she too was adjusting to things at her own pace. Now nearly two months in we've both gotten so much better with nursing and she even allows me to put her in different positions which is why I now love to use the Boppy pillow. I found ways to adjust it to my body and keep it that way throughout feedings. I lay, Lucy, overtop, and it's made feedings feel so much better since she lays so much more comfortably and I'm hands-free. She'll fall asleep during feedings and sometimes I'll just leave her resting there for a few minutes. As she's getting older Rudy and I have even tried laying her on it for tummy time so she can exercise holding her head up and she loves this! Sometimes we'll also have her sit in it while we supervise her of course and it's nice having this because there are so many different ways we can use it.

There were definitely a few more things I could have included in this post that we've been enjoying such as our mamaRoo, Snuggle Me Organic infant lounger, and Solly Baby infant wrap, but I wanted to talk about products that we love and use just about every day. We get a lot of use of other products but they also depend on Lucy's mood that day. Some days she doesn't want to be in the mamaRoo or doesn't want to be worn in the Solly wrap. That's just how it is with a newborn. Now the products above have really been lifesavers for us.

I've gotten a lot of comments about the clothing and turbans I constantly dress Lucy in and I want to share a post dedicated to shops that I'm obsessed with fand shop at. Thanks so much for joining me on this post, and if you're a parent let me know what are/were some of your essentials during those newborn months.

{"$t":"Juliana
$t":"http://www.blogger.com/profile/09410637408830790715
$t":"noreply@blogger.com"},"gd$image":
//blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinw98N1LY4v8SvYbQE7_w8QZkoJjgkTZuMxaLciiTGhqEIOsYZtOXCNr7YQTC05lz_vPv4_jABDfn8oJ2giVQ_04s9i77G94gU9ZaprRtLepq-xmeSbo8krD2DNsPoZT0/s113/ACS_0224.JPG"}}],"media$thumbnail":{"xmlns$media":"http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/
https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x2HJAeXozI4/X8v_pDJhY-I/AAAAAAAAKPQ/T3BdKFYAWL4CDCDfOuZl45xU86CpdoEwwCNcBGAsYHQ/s72-c/image%2B3.jpg
72
72"},"thr$total":{"$t":"0
$t":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-400672302414468518.post-2224340858288006939
$t":"2019-07-29T05:00:00.001-07:00
$t":"2021-10-06T10:06:51.483-07:00
"$t":"Summertime Must-Haves
html","$t":"

Ever since living out of California for a year, it's really made me appreciate the warm sunny weather. From the moment I moved back to California, I've embraced and made the best out of the ever so hot weather. It's truly the perfect time to throw a BBQ with family or friends, lounge at the pool, enjoy some frozen yogurt, and do lots of exploring! Since we're at the peak of summer, today I've gathered some of my summertime must-have items to share with you all. Although things may tend to differ from year to year, it always stays pretty similar. Enjoy!

There's no surprise that I'm starting off with SPF. Sunscreen is such an essential for me year-round especially in the summer with all of the high UV rays. Every morning a part of my morning skincare routine I incorporate some SPF to my morning serum cocktail mix. For my face SPF, I've been using the Drunk Elephant Umbra with SPF 30 for over a year now. I tend to switch off between this one and the DE Umbra Tint. They're both absolutely amazing the only difference is the Umbra Tint, of course, has a bit of a tint which is perfect for days that I'm not going to apply any makeup and need to head out the house to run errands.

Your body is no different than your face so I always try to make sure I never forget to protect it with a body SPF. A couple of months ago I purchased the Sun Bum Broad Spectrum SPF 50 and it's already one of my favorites. It smells like bananas, yup you heard that right, it sinks into my skin very nicely without leaving that tacky feeling most sunscreens leave behind. Plus, it doesn't leave behind a white cast on my skin. That is something I'm so picky about an SPF on my body because of my tattoos. A previous one I owned did that and my tattoos looked terribly. I need to use SPF in order to protect my skin and of course, prevent my tattoos from fading. However, I didn't want them to look like they had a cast over top, I want them to look as bright and vibrant as they possibly can.

An essential I can not live without during this season is sunglasses! Have you ever left your house and are out and about with the sun beaming on you only to realize you forgot your sunglasses at home? Ugh, I hate that feeling and have experienced it one too many times. I now try to make sure regardless of the purse I'm carrying to always bring a pair of sunnies or at least keep one in the car. It's no fun driving without sunglasses and the sun is constantly blinding you. My latest favorite has been my Ray-Ban Icons 53mm Retro Sunglasses. I've wanted these for so long and finally purchased them early this year. The Balm Dotcom is great because you don't only have to use it as a lip balm, it's pretty universal and can also be used on your cuticles or any dry areas you might have. It's no secret that this year I discovered my new love for jumpsuits and been wearing them nonstop. It's such a one and done outfit all you really have to do is accessorize with some fun jewelry and a handbag. Back in middle school and high school, I was guilty of over-plucking the crap of my brows. I had no idea what I was doing and I would be left with a baby line of hair. Since I started messing with my eyebrows way too early in life they no longer grow. They remain very skinny and because of that, I've always been kind of self-conscious about them. (Don't get me wrong, I still rock them bare and natural all the time.) Clearly, I was never an expert when it came to eyebrows, and still, I don't consider myself to be one. However, I have learned a lot about drawing and filling them in within the last couple of years. After months and months of searching, I discovered what types of products worked and didn't work along with finding out my preferred tools to use. In this post, I am going to share all the products I use and must have in order to achieve my perfect brow!

Before using any brow products I like to first use a primer all over my eyebrow area. My favorite primer I like to use for this is the Too Faced Primed & Peachy matte primer. Since this is a mattifying primer it'll ensure that I won't get oily and since I have bangs and have oily skin I've had issues with my bangs rubbing the product off. This primer does a very good job it's one of my current favorite primers and not only for my eyebrows but for my face as well.

My number one product of preference to draw my eyebrows is a pomade. The longevity of a pomade is ideal for anyone who has oily skin. They last the longest compared to others since they're usually waterproof. I switch off from a couple of different pomades but one that I enjoy using is the LA Splash UD Brow. I was on the hunt for a cruelty-free waterproof pomade and my friend Liz recommended this one to me. I've also had issues with finding the perfect shade match to my hair because some are way too red toned while others are too ashy. I bought the shade cinnamon daisy and it is the perfect match. This product doesn't budge! When I first got it I swatched it on my hand to make the color was a match and then tried rubbing it off and nothing. When I was taking shower tried to rub it off with just water it still wouldn't come off not until I added soap and scrubbed it with my loofa. Whenever I use this pomade I know I can rely on it staying all day on my skin without smudging.

If possible I try to avoid cleaning up my eyebrows with concealer, I feel the messy look makes them look more natural especially since I have very little eyebrow hair. I use a little bit of any concealer to clean up mistakes I may have made or if I need to make the tail of my brow a little sharper. Sometimes I also use it to lighten up the front of my eyebrows to give it more of a faded look.

Once the previous steps are completed it's time to set my eyebrows with a tinted brow gel. I prefer tinted brow gels because I feel they give the appearance of a more fuller brow and I'll take all the help I can get in that department. I've been loving the Glossier boy brow. It's so good and does such an amazing job of coating every single hair with the product making them look fuller. This has been the best brow gel I've used.

This final step may sound a little strange. Once my eyebrow is completely finished I like to dab some translucent loose powder to the front of my eyebrow to set or in other words "bake" the pomade. There isn't anything worse than your brows fading throughout the day especially if your bangs rub on them. I like doing this step as a precaution. Just like you set your foundation and concealer so it doesn't move, I set my eyebrows with powder so they won't move. And guess what? It actually works! After a couple of minutes, I will brush it away with a brush and then lightly comb through the hairs to make sure I removed all of the powder.

I wanted to include one last brow product. On days that I'm going to run some errands and don't want to be bothered to do my brows with pomade or just don't have as much time to, I love the ABH brow wiz eyebrow pencil. This is one of my favorite brow pencils that I've used. This pencil is so simple to use because of how skinny and precise the pencil is, and it makes filling in the brows easy with little mistakes. The following two SPF I will be talking about are both cruelty-free. I'm so incredibly pale and I remember back to when I was a kid I would easily get sunburned especially on the face. It sucked and I hated being in the sun for that reason. I apply sunscreen to my face daily, whether if it's already in my moisturizer or if I have to add a couple of extra pumps to my moisturizer. The sun doesn't only burn your skin but it damages it as well causing you to age a lot more rapidly along with getting wrinkles. No one wants that so take care and protect your skin. I really enjoy the Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer with SPF 47 and I've been using it for about two years if not more. I appreciate that it is SPF 47 and always try to use products with a high SPF on my face especially in Spring and Summer time. Normally I use 1-2 pumps of this and mix it with my morning moisturizer. It is super light weight, doesn't make my skin look oily, and I also don't get any flashback in photos. My makeup still applies beautifully and easily over top, I have no complaints.

Body SPF: As much as I love to protect my face from the sun I never exclude my body. It's pretty obvious that my body is filled with tattoos and because of that I always make sure I apply SPF if it's being exposed to the sun. Like I said the sun damages your skin and it will do the same to your tattoos causing them to fade. I spent a good amount of money on all my tattoos I wouldn't want them to get ruined due to me not doing something as simple as applying my SPF. I recently picked up this Bare Republic Mineral Baby Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50. Once again I always try to use products with a high SPF to try and protect my skin from the sun as much as I possibly can. That is why I prefer to use a baby SPF. You can use this SPF on your adult self and on babies. Babies have very sensitive and delicate skin so I see it as a baby SPF will work great on their sensitive skin and possibly provide more protection. (This can be all in my head too haha.) I apply this sunscreen to any areas of my body that will be exposed to the sun and that my clothing won't cover and I've been very pleased with it. This sunscreen contains shea butter to keep skin soft, chamomile extract to soothe and calm babies delicate skin, and vitamin E that protects skin from environmental damage.

Lips SPF: Don't forget to protect your lips too! You should also apply chapstick that contains SPF, yet again the sun will also damage your lips. I'm telling you, SPF is so important. There isn't anything worse than having dry, cracked, chapped lips on a hot day. I recently picked up this Sun Bum chapstick with SPF 30 in watermelon flavor. Even though I'm not a fan of the flavor the formula is lovely. It hydrates my lips immediately. This is also a cheaper alternative to some higher end chapsticks on the market.

Sandals: Sandals are definitely a priority of mine when it's hot out. I hate when my feet are hot and sweaty which is why I hate socks haha. I love sandals and how fresh they make my feet feel but it's hard to find a good pair of comfy sandals. Most of the sandals I own I can only wear for a few hour before my feet begin to feel sore from standing too long in them. These Salt Water Sandals are one of the comfiest I own. I've been getting so much use out of them lately they're definitely my go-to. I spoke a lot more about them on my April Favorites so feel free to read a little more over there.

Bronzer: When the weather warms up that is when I like to use a little more bronzer than I normally would. One of my favorite bronzers is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. I know I've spoken about this bronzer in past posts that just goes to show that I really do love this stuff. Usually, when Spring and Summer roll around I much prefer bronzers that give off a sheen or glow to the skin. This Butter Bronzer gives me exactly that and gives me that classic bronze glow that is perfect for my pale skin.

Sunglasses: I can never leave the house without a pair of sunglasses. My Quay Australia sunnies are one of my favorite. They always come in handy while I'm in the car and especially when I'm about and about. I hate squinting because of the sun and that always ends up giving me a headache. I'm so easily prone to getting headaches especially if I'm not using my prescription glasses. This pair is perfect since the lens are UV protected and my eyes are safe from sun rays.

Deodorant: Closing my essentials with a good deodorant. This is a very important and necessary! On hotter days you tend to sweat and maybe smell more than usual. I normally don't have to worry about body odor but I always worry about sweating! I sweat a lot, and I seriously hate that. It's always been a struggle of mine to find a good antiperspirant that is strong enough to control my sweating. However, recently I finally picked up the new Tarte Clean Queen vegan deodorant and surprisingly enough it's worked so well with my sweating. It smells so fresh and clean I've been really enjoying it. I think this may become my holy grail deodorant and you might even see it on my next favorites!

What are some of your Summer Time essentials?

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; During spring and summer I tend to be more exposed to the sun than usual, even though I try to avoid it at all costs. It is so important to protect your skin from all those uv's and it will keep your skin healthy and looking young. I normally use products that already contain SPF such as a moisturizer, primer or foundation. Last year I discovered this Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer with SPF 47, it's a face sunblock. I really like this product and it protects my skin really well and it has SPF 47 which is awesome. When I use a foundation that doesn't have any SPF I always use this underneath, I mix one pump with my moisturize. I have never noticed it leaving me with a white mask with flash photos either which is a plus. Before I owned the Josie Maran SPF I used the Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer that has SPF in it already, which is another favorite product. I would use this on a daily basis especially in the warmer weather and at Disneyland. I did notice that while I wore this at Disneyland that by the end of the day when I am back at the hotel and washing off my makeup that my cheeks were a bit rosy. The rosiness would be gone by morning but once I began using the Josie Maran I never saw the redness on my cheeks. Josie Maran's has a higher SPF and clearly protected my skin better while under direct sun. I'm not saying you have to buy this exact product because I know it can be a bit pricey, heck I am using a small one myself that came part of a value set. At the end of the day everyone should really use some kind of sun protection for their skin. The sun does make you age with time and who doesn't want to look young for as long as they possibly can?

I go sandal crazy in the spring every year. When I was younger I was way too shy and self conscious to even consider wearing anything that would show my toes but as I grew older I cared less about what people thought and more about how comfortable my feet would be in the hotter weather. I own tons and enjoy a wide variety of sandals. These are two of my favorite style of sandals and two that I recently picked up. A Birkenstock (Not the originals, the Target version.) ones and these strappy Mexican looking sandals. The Birkenstock ones are definitely my go to for comfort. When I first started seeing girls wearing these about two years ago now I thought they were one of the most ugliest shoes I had ever seen haha. I guess with time they kinda grew on me and especially once I tried on my first pair, it was love at first step! I honestly now think they are really cute and you can style them with so many different outfit choices. Same goes with the Mexican inspired ones. I own tons of sandals that look like these I just can get enough. I love wearing these with any outfits especially a dress. They will go with anything I am wearing. Very Easter appropriate.

Fresh floral scented candles are perfect for this season. This may be no surprise to some but my favorite candles to have out for spring has to be anything peach. I enjoy the peach candles that Bath & Body Works carry, I usually only get my candles from there. I own both Georgia Peach and Peach Bellini, my favorite of the two will have to be peach bellini. This one I feel is a much stronger peach scent. Having these candles burning on a nice warm afternoon is absolutely perfect while laying in bed cuddled with Rudy and the dogs while we watch some Bobs Burgers. I can't wait for that.

A non peachy candle that I only recently became in love with is the lemon mint tea candle also from Bath & Body Works. For some reason this time they released this candle it kept calling my name but I think a lot of it had to do with the cup little tea pot on the front. I don't like anything lemon usually so I stayed away from this one and yet every time I would go in the store I would catch myself sniffing it. One day I woke up with the urge of finally owning it and now its quickly become a few favorite and I own a few of them. Funny how things happen.

Camera(s) are a must with warmer weather. I love to take photos pretty much all the time but more so when its nice outside. I like to go out more often on small adventures even if its only a town away. I recently got this Samsung camera and I love it so much. There is so many cool features to it that I'm learning something new about it everyday. This camera has really came in handy and it has different modes that you can take your photos in. Also look at the color, its mint! I'm also very obsessed with polaroid cameras and I love to carry around my instax mini. I've loved it since the day I got in the mail about three years ago and I think its so cool how they're been making a come back. Every time Rudy and I go on a trip such as Disneyland I always make sure to bring it with me. I love the fact that a physical photo prints out directly and it becomes a treasured memory. I have so many wonderful memories saved from these little films.

Lastly a large bag! During these warmer seasons I make an exception. I am able to toss my sweater if I get too hot wearing it, carry my water bottle, even tons some snacks if Rudy and I decide to go to the movies.
